The Chameleon's Adaptations for Hunting

Adaptations for Hunting

Hunting: The chameleon will remain immobile on a branch, searching for insects with its two roving eyes. When it spots a victim, it will use both eyes to judge position and distance correctly, and will then shoot its tongue straight out of its mouth at the insect.

Tongue: Up to 14cm in length and armed with a club-shaped mucus-covered tip.

Grip: The chameleon is able to balance, perfectly still, by gripping the branch with its pincer-like claws and wrapping its long, grasping tail around the branch.
