Introduction of present members

Reports of Officers:

Sages Report: Scott welcomed everyone for coming to the meeting and went over what was going to be covered for the majority of today’s meeting. Scott indicated that the undergraduates would be giving a report on the “status of the chapter” and orchid ball would also be discussed.

Treasures Report: Not in attendance. Keith gave info for Cuz. About 800.00 in the bank and only about five members have paid their dues for 2001-2002. Keith indicated that Cuz would be e-mailing notices to those people that still owe dues.

Secretary Report: Reported that most of the current membership addresses are updated. Indicated that if anyone moves that they can update their address via the Sigma Pi web page. Also offered to straighten out any problems regarding the Emerald.

Undergraduate Chapter Report: Phil “Opie” gave the alumni club an update of the current state of the chapter. Phil indicated that David Hanna the last Sage did not return to school this academic year. The chapter was placed on interdisciplinary probation for not participating with the college. Apparently according to Phil, David never attended any meetings last year with Student government and did not meet with the office of Greek life to submit an agenda for the year to the Greek life advisor. Phil indicated that the chapter is making progress at getting off of probation. Phil indicated that the chapter should be off by 12-10-01. Currently the chapter has found a new chapter advisor, Brad Wingo, a graduate of the “camp” in 1995. Phil indicated that the current chapter size is four members with three pledges that have finished, but have not paid their pledge fee of 300.00 to be duly initiated. Phil indicated that the chapter has also lost the lounge. He also indicated that the college took all of the lounges away from all Greek letter organizations. Phil indicated that the charter and the composites are in Brad Turner’s garage. Phil indicated that the chapter is financially challenged and is working on getting money from the SGA. Phil summed by indicating that they are trying to get things back together. He appreciates the alumni support and hopes to better communicate with the alumni club, so that the brothers’ know what is going on.

New Business: Discussion on the chapter finances regarding the debt of the chapter. Looking at FIPG 500.00, Per Man deductibles 94.50, Charter dues 250.00. After much discussion by all alumni and undergraduate executive counsel members present, a proposal was made for the alumni club to loan the undergraduate chapter 500.00 for the FIPG deductible. Motion made to formally float a loan to the undergraduates to be repaid once the chapter is in better financial status. Motion was made by Scott Cuviello, and seconded by Keith Cockrell. Motion carried by all alumni present.

The overall strategy was for the undergraduates to make their bid proposal to SGA for roughly 2,800.00 Phil was made aware of what needed to be submitted in the proposal. Alumni also went over the current financial bill the chapter owes and Brad Turner is to call Karen at the National office and see about some charges on the bill. Undergraduate chapter is to also give Keith the names of brothers’ that owe dues so that denationalization can take place as well as referral for collections, so that the chapter can get the money that is owed to them. The alumni club indicated the money is a loan and is meant to be paid back. The club felt that in order to insure the chapter’s chances of survival that the FIPG had to be paid by the 15th of October or face immediate suspension of the charter.

Secretary indicated also that by-laws to be e-mailed to three new members: Brad Turner, Eric Thompson, and Jason Auriemma.

Orchid ball- Location is going to be in Northern Virginia in March. Date T.B.A

Workshop arranged for last weekend in January. Details to follow via e-mail.

Adjournment – Motion made to close the meeting, seconded. Meeting closed at 11:42 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

William E. Seaton, III.
